Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Marbled Cuts?
Marbled Cuts is a fine meat distributor based in San Jose, CA. We make direct partnerships with only the best ranches creating a unique direct to consumer price point that is much more affordable than our competitors. We pride ourselves in quality products and services delivered at the best price. We sell American Wagyu(F1), Akaushi Wagyu(F3), and USDA Prime cuts from a limited amount of partnered ranches.
What is American Wagyu?
Also known as an F1 Cross, American Wagyu is 50% American Black Angus & 50% Japanese Cattle.
What is Akaushi beef?
Akaushi beef is a red cattle imported from Japan. They are raised here in the US in very limited quantities and have a very unique flavor profile. Health benefits are much better than traditional American Raised Black Angus as well.
What is the BMS scale?
BMS stands for Beef Marbling Score. It is derived from the Japanese rating system that scores the marbling of fat in beef on the scale of 1-12. To give you a gauge, USDA choice comes in around 3-4. USDA Prime comes in at about 5-6. We don't sell much of anything less than BMS 5 & most of our steaks are 8 or higher. All of our steaks/cuts are clearly given a BMS score to ensure you know what quality you are getting.
Does a higher BMS rating mean that it is a better quality meat or better tasting?
We are proud to say that just because a specific cut of steak offers a higher BMS score, doesn't mean it is better. We like to think of them as different experiences. If you want a traditional steak like texture with meaty flavors you should aim towards lower BMS rating cuts. If you want a richer, buttery, and succulent experience you should get steaks with higher BMS scores.
How does your pricing compare to other major American Wagyu Online Retailers?
You will find no Premium American Wagyu product of ours cost over $75/lb when other retailers list their premium products for well over $125/lb for less marbling. Most of our marbling scores are a minimum BMS of 10+. We do offer other lower BMS steak experiences at an even cheaper rate.
Why does your website not have any sales?
We don't mark our products up nearly as high as other websites. We simply have no room to discount and still make a profit. You may notice companies like Snake River Farms, Crowd Cow, or The Wagyu Shop have similar American Wagyu with similar Marbling yet cost about 40-70% more expensive per pound. This is also how they give you “cheaper” shipping.
Do you have a subscription service?
We do not have a subscription service for many reasons but do have a loyalty program which offers discounts for customers that purchase within a given amount of days from their last ship date. The program does not cost any money and is solely based on how frequent you purchase.
What is the discount given for frequent buyers?
Placing a new order within 30 days of your last ship date gives you 5% off. To get this discount simply send us a message with your previous email or order confirmation and we will manually credit your order. Each order can only be used for one future discount.
Is there a minimum order requirement?
Yes. We have an order minimum of $150 to help offset the cost of processing, shipping, and insulated packaging.
Do you offer any discounted or free shipping?
When you purchase in larger quantities from our website, discounted shipping becomes available as soon as you hit the minimums. The current minimum for discounted shipping is $350. Your cart should tell you how much is left to add in order to get the next shipping discount.
What shipping options do you have?
We only offer 2 day shipping and Next Day Air as the product is perishable. We package well enough for 3 day shipping for potential shipping delays only. You can find out more about shipping here.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is based on the volume you purchase, type of shipping, and the region you live. It typically runs anywhere between $35-$85. When you purchase $350 or more there is a 15-25% discount on shipping costs. Wholesale orders can qualify for cheaper or free shipping. Please contact us directly so we can help you with current rates minimum order requirements.
Why don't you offer fixed rate shipping like other websites do?
Similar to why we don't have any sales. We try to mark up our product as minimally as possible and try our very best to make shipping cost effective. Other websites charge much more than we do per pound and therefore claim you are getting “discounted” or “free” shipping which is very misleading. You are in fact paying full price for shipping you just don't realize it is built into the cost of the overpriced product. Shipping is also becoming more and more expensive as we encounter labor shortages, inflation, and other disruptions in our supply chains.
This is a gift, how do I write a note for person I am buying it for?
During check out, please leave your desired message in the "Order Notes" field and we will be happy to print it and ship it with your order.
